The European Commission determined that the absolutely illegal aggression of the convicted on 37 felony counts Donald Trump against Venezuela and the abduction of its elected president Nicolás Maduro is an “opportunity for a democratic transition” based on the opposition. It also made it clear that it will not recognize as president of the country vice-president Rodriguez – preferring, obviously, the far-right schemer Machado and the fraudster Guaidó.
The Commission has the nerve to talk about democracy, when it stubbornly refuses any talk of democratization of the EU legislative procedure, the adoption of transparency and accountability rules, when it refuses to even consider combating the revolving doors phenomenon and the cronyism that characterize so many of its officials.
The Commission has the nerve to talk about democracy, when, although the EU Parliament and the citizens reject its idea of mass, pre-emptive, “for our own good” spying on our messaging services and everything we do or say online, it keeps bringing it back in numerous laws, from ProtectEU to the Regulation against the sexual abuse of minors.
The Commission’s audacity would have been ridiculous if it were not so deeply insulting to the intelligence and dignity of every democratic citizen of Europe, of every citizen who yearns for a world that will function on the basis of International Law and will not be subjected to the whims of fascists and neo-colonialists. It would have been amusing, if it did not put the security and safety of every EU member-state, and every other state’s worlwide, at the mercy of Trump’s bandits.
The vile, vulgar, impertinent, bullying presence of Michael Waltz, US Ambassador to the United Nations at the UN Security Council shows clearly that, no matter what Trump and his cheerleaders say, this was clearly a criminal, burglar-like, illegal attack on a sovereign state. The EU Commission placed itself at the side of a gang of brigands who think they are the rightful owners of the Western Hemisphere and which is led by one of the basic clients of a child sex trafficker. So, with its stance, the Commission gave China and Russia the opportunity to posture as morally superior and as… guardians of International Law! We have never seen such a disgraceful performance by European officials – not even by Schäuble’s sockpuppet, the risible Jeroen Dijsselbloem!
The Pirate Party of Greece condemns in the most categorically way the deplorable stance of the Commission, which chose to be the poodle of a felon that tore International Law to shreds in order to plunder the natural resources of another country and threatens the territorial integrity of an EU member-state. It is clear that this pitiful entity that is called the EU Commission will find no words to say when Trump, Netanyahu, Erdoğan, Putin or who knows who else decides to do the same against the government or a political leader of an EU member-state. We are also obliged to remind the Commission that compliance with International Law and other legislation, EU or international, may not depend on whether we like A or B head of state or political leader. The concept of “à la carte”, conditional compliance with, and application of, the law is preposterous and unacceptable.
Mme Von der Leyen does not speak for us; neither does Mme Kallas – or the rest of this circus of wretchedness, obsequiousness, institutional and moral rot, and self-ridicule. We do not expect them to have the basic dignity to resign. But they will always find us opposite them.
