Through the excellent reportage work of Inside Story and Haaretz, as well as through three rock-solid technical reports, there is strong evidence that all employees of the Israeli spyware developer Intellexa had access to every information that its kompromat (compromising information collected for use in blackmailing, discrediting, or manipulating someone, typically for political purposes) collection suite Predator scooped up from its targets’ infected devices.
Numerous politicians, businesspersons, journalists in Greece were targeted by this malware; so did the country’s military leadership, as well as many in the judiciary. To make matters worse, thousands of citizens became “collateral damage” in all of this, through their regular, casual, work-mandated, and/or incidental contact with the main targets. All this, by order of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis – and his entire party condoned this.
Now, why are we saying that the entire Nea Demokratia (New Democracy) party condoned this outrageous scandal? None of its ministers and MPs sued Intellexa or its political and state service clients. No one resigned in protest for this unprecedented affront to democracy and insult to their honor and dignnity. Not a single one. Instead, they all kept voting against any meaningful investigation of the scandal. As for former Chief National Defence General Staff Mr. Konstantinos Floros, the less said, the better. How could he accept being spied upon on… suspiction for being dangerous to national security (according to those who ordered the wiretaps) instead of resigning on the spot?
And now we find out that the personal data of those surveilled were fully accessible by everyone at Intellexa. They could give them away to anyone they wished, sell them on to anyone they wished, just because. And, of course, through Tal Dilian – veteran espionage bigwig for the genocidal Israeli Apartheid regime and IT “businessman” – all of this kompromat certainly became available to all of the Israeli state and deep state apparatus. As if the trampling on democracy and the rule of Law in Greece was not enough. Because Mr. Mitsotakis wanted, as if he was a 1960s KGB chief, to control everyone and everything. It is absolutely impossible to know the exact extent and depth of the exposure of Greek citizens to the eyes of Intellexa’s “employees” and the Israeli deep state’s agents. What is certain is that Kyriakos Mitsotakis turned Greece into a banana republic of extortioned and potentially extortioned subjects. As for his party’s politicians and staffers, they consciously chose, in order to stay in power, to swallow Greece’s exposure to Israeli spies, so none of them has any right to be exempted from being shamed for their silence and complicity.
In the next election, Nea Demokratia must suffer what it suffered in 2015 and worse, if we want to deserve the right to say we’re dignified citizens, if we want to credibly claim we respect ourselves, the polity, our democratic principles, the very concept of the rule of Law. Its far-right stooges, who have been supporting it in every scandal, need to suffer the same fate. All of them must find themselves outside parliamentary immunity, without the impunity granted to them by Evangelos Venizelos’ deplorable Article 86.
The Pirate Party of Greece demands the full investigation of this malodorous case, with criminal charges and appropriate jail time for all abettors, instigators, culprits, and accomplices; the immediate and permanent removal – or dishonorable discharge – from the judiciary, the police, and the military of all who accepted to be spied upon in exchange for favors of all kinds. We demand a full ban on the use of such software; an EU-level embargo against all Israeli “IT” and “data collection and analysis” (let’s be honest, they’re all in the spyware/kompromat collection business, and practically all of them were founded by former spies) companies, and harsh sanctions on Israel for facilitating them and collaborating with them.
